If you live near an established club, get in touch and ask for a Taster Session. The member clubs are very welcoming & will be keen to introduce you to our sport, at minimal cost.
If you live too far from an established club, you may still be able to try the sport at any of the commercial activity providers who offer sandyachting, landsailing or Blokarting - try Googling any of those 3 words.
If you live near a suitable sailing site, you may wish to buy a mini land yacht and discover the sport for yourself. There are numerous suppliers in the UK.
The competitive racing of sand and land yachts is based at the established clubs, but the recreational sailing of mini land yachts for pleasure takes place at beaches all round the country and is surprisingly popular.
Mini yachts can operate on a variety of surfaces, including grass (tightly grazed sheep pasture/commons/dunes, or the outfield of a school/village cricket pitch) or tarmac, concrete or gravel - but don’t forget to ask for permission before you try sailing there!
The established clubs offer proper structured training courses leading to the award of a pilot’s licence, an essential requirement if you want to get involved in the racing of any of the land yacht classes. A licence is not however required to race the mini yachts, but you will be asked for proof of insurance.
The training courses are designed to give newcomers the confidence to sail competitively and safely and to improve their skills.
The training course covers :-
- An introduction to the sport
- Sailing theory
- Practical sailing tuition in our club yachts
- Racing rules and competitions
- Yacht purchase and hire
Please contact your nearest club for details of taster and training sessions
